Highguard would have been partly financed by the giant Tencent

Meanwhile, the game website has been unavailable since yesterday

On GameFile, we learn that Highguard has benefited from several funding sources, one of which is now known. The Chinese giant Tencent (via its subsidiary TiMi Studio) would have been one of the main investors in this project according to the journalist’s sourceseven if this had never been made public since the announcement of free-to-play, and we do not know why the whole thing was secret.

However, it is still unknown how much was invested in the game, and whether Wildlight was entirely financed by Tencent, even if the journalist suggests that development relied heavily on the group’s funds. If this is the case, the publisher must be grimacing since there is now little chance of him seeing a return on his investment. We imagine that the bill must be steep given that Wildlight had around a hundred employees during a major part of the development.

Today, the studio is only a shadow of itself since it announced a few days ago that it was separating from a large part of its employees. Only a small team has to stay on the game to ensure future updates, something that no one really believes in. Moreover, the game website has been unavailable since yesterdaythus suggesting that an announcement is being prepared, and not a good one. While this could be a simple technical problem, it could also be a sign of an upcoming closure of services.
