Assassin’s Creed Shadows receives an update with long-requested changes

We had to wait almost a year after its release, but it’s now official: Assassin’s Creed Shadows finally allows you to jump freely. Ubisoft is rolling out update 1.1.8 this February 17, an expected update which profoundly modifies the game’s parkour system.

Released last year to a generally positive reception despite controversies over certain historical inaccuracies – going so far as to provoke discussions within the Japanese government – Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues to evolve. This new update brings a feature that many players thought they had acquired since launch: manual jumping. Assassin’s Creed Shadows update 1.1.8 introduces hand jumping, a social parkour challenge, and several major improvements starting February 17.

Manual jumping finally arrives in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Until now, parkour has been largely automated. Vertical movement and obstacle crossings were managed by a contextual system, leaving little direct control to players. With version 1.1.8 this changes. A simple press of a button now allows you to jump freely. Forced automatic parkour becomes optional, restoring finer control of movements in the environments of feudal Japan. To activate this feature, you must go to the advanced options in the settings menu and activate the manual jump. Without this manipulation, the automatic system remains active by default.

A social parkour challenge to celebrate the update

Ubisoft accompanies this novelty with a limited-time challenge centered on parkour. Players are invited to create an unretouched image showcasing their cleanest runs. Rewards are provided for the most impressive performances, with an emphasis on fluency and precision. The objective is clear: to highlight the creativity of the community thanks to the new jumping system. This initiative is part of a desire to boost engagement around the title, a few weeks before its first anniversary.

Detailed statistics and visual improvements in combat

Update 1.1.8 isn’t limited to parkour. Ubisoft is also adding a detailed statistics page allowing players to see their performance more precisely. A new visual feedback for critical hits also appears in combat, improving the readability of clashes and the perception of damage inflicted. These technical adjustments aim to refine the experience without upsetting the general balance of the game.

Release date, patch weight and future of the game

The update will be available on February 17 at 2:00 p.m. UTC. Its weight varies depending on the platform: up to 15.77 GB on Xbox compared to 1.7 GB on PS5. Next month, the major expansion Claws of Awaji will be released for Nintendo Switch 2. Then, on March 20, Ubisoft plans to celebrate the game’s first anniversary with a special event. Between the addition of manual jumping, a community challenge and an imminent expansion, Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues its evolution a year after its release.
