John Wick arrives on PS5, a pure masterpiece that follows the chronology of the films

The most feared killer in cinema is about to draw… a controller. During PlayStation State of Play on February 12, 2026, Saber Interactive and Lionsgate officially confirmed the existence of a John Wick video game, long discussed but never materialized. Presented via a two-minute trailer, including around ten seconds of particularly intense gameplay, the project is now very real.

For the moment, the title remains provisional and no release date has been communicated. A release on PlayStation 5 is planned. But the most striking element does not lie only in its announcement: this game is officially canon in the extended universe of John Wick. In other words, it fits fully into the chronology of the films and participates in the overall history of the franchise.

A John Wick game officially integrated into the timeline

Unlike many video game adaptations which offer parallel stories or free rereadings, this project fits directly into the universe established by the films. Saber Interactive, Lionsgate and key figures in the franchise work hand in hand to ensure complete consistency.

Jesus Iglesias, game director at Saber Interactive, said: “We are working closely with Chad Stahelski (John Wick director and franchise visionary), Keanu Reeves and Lionsgate to produce an intense, adrenaline-filled experience that is seamlessly integrated into the John Wick universe.”

The game will explore a specific period in the life of the famous assassin. The official post adds: “This game takes place during a specific period in the John Wick timeline and contributes to the franchise’s rich and complex history.”

Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski involved in the project

The direct participation of Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski distinguishes this project from many licensed productions. Their involvement aims to preserve the visual, narrative and choreographic identity that has made the films successful since the release of the first opus in October 2014.

The John Wick universe continues to expand, with four films, a television series and now an official video game. This new production will not be a simple marketing derivative but a real narrative chapter.

The release also states: “This is an original game story that addresses an important period in the life of John Wick, featuring iconic and well-known characters, as well as exciting new characters created specifically for this production.”

A combat system redesigned to match the films

Saber Interactive promises a faithful approach to the choreographed brutality that characterizes the saga. The gameplay preview shows close-quarters combat, precise shooting and rapid sequences reminiscent of iconic scenes from the big screen.

The studio wants to merge video games and cinema in order to restore the intensity specific to the franchise. The official message concludes: “While it’s difficult to summarize everything we are doing to make this John Wick game a truly exceptional experience, we hope that this message that we are happy to share with you will give you a better idea.”

Release date and platforms, what we know

At this point, no launch date has been announced and the game does not yet have a final title. The PlayStation 5 is mentioned as a platform under consideration, which suggests advanced but still ongoing development.

While waiting for more official information, the most impatient players are turning to alternatives like the John Wick-inspired mod for Max Payne 3, often cited as the closest experience to the hitman universe.

One thing is now certain: John Wick will no longer be content with eliminating his enemies on the big screen. He is preparing to fully invest in the video game field, with the ambition of extending his universe in a coherent and spectacular manner.
