Nobody saw it coming. During the franchise’s anniversary event, Blizzard revealed Reign of the Warlocka brand new extension for Diablo 2: Resurrectedmarking a historic return for a game that has remained frozen since 2001. “For the first time in nearly 25 years, Diablo 2 is enriched with new content with the Reign of the Warlock expansion.”
The surprise is total: this extension is already available on Battle.net, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. “Reign of the Warlock is also available today for players on Battle.net, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.”
The Warlock is Coming: A New Playstyle for Diablo 2
The big star of this update is none other than the new playable class: the Warlock. New in the saga, it brings radically different gameplay, based on summoning and demonic manipulation. “The Warlock in Diablo 2: Resurrected is capable of summoning and manipulating minions, with abilities like: summoning a Goatman, a Tainted and a Defiler, binding an enemy demon and accessing its unique ability, or devouring a demon for bonuses.”
This “demonic bond” mechanic offers strategic flexibility never before seen in the Diablo 2 universe. It gives a whole new flavor to combat, allowing players to customize their style depending on the enemies encountered.
New content for a renewed experience
But Reign of the Warlock doesn’t stop there. The extension introduces Enhanced Terror Zonesmore difficult versions of the game’s acts, with new enemies like the Heralds of Terror or the giant boss Colossal Ancients.
The rewards are also redesigned, notably via the Horadric Cube which will be used to combine objects to unlock this ultimate boss. Other notable additions: a built-in loot filterA improved inventoryand a chronicle of items obtained for demanding collectors.
A class shared with Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4
The Warlock will not be exclusive to Diablo 2. He will also join Diablo Immortal in summer 2026 with a dedicated origin quest and gameplay focused on the Soulgorgeras well as Diablo 4 from the launch of the extension Lord of Hatred in April.
