Resident Evil 5 Remake almost confirmed, and the release is very close

The return of an iconic duo is about to shake up new generation consoles. While the rumors have been growing for several months, a concrete element comes to restart the machine: an ESRB classification “Mature 17+” for Resident Evil 5 on Xbox Series X/S has just been spotted online. And if this is not enough to remove all doubts, it is a more than solid indicator which suggests an imminent remake of the famous Capcom opus.

As fans grow impatient, all eyes are now on the PlayStation State of Playscheduled for February 12. The event could well provide the long-awaited formalization. If Capcom follows the same logic as for previous remakes of the franchise, the announcement is only a matter of hours.

Capcom ready to resurrect Resident Evil 5

To date, Capcom has not officially confirmed this remake. However, according to the now public notice from the ESRB, “the new ESRB rating all but confirms that we are going to be treated to a remake of Resident Evil 5. Granted, we are still waiting for confirmation from Capcom, but given their fairly consistent track record for Resident Evil remakes, it seems very likely that we will face the infected in Kijuju this year.”

This remake would mark a new stage in Capcom’s well-oiled strategy: progressively modernizing each cult episode of the saga, as was the case for Resident Evil 2, 3 and especially 4.

Towards a return to more tense horror?

In the current state, Resident Evil 5 is seen as a very action-oriented shift, which did not convince the entire community when it was initially released in 2009. Capcom, however, seems ready to correct the situation: “Capcom has never hesitated to make changes to its original games.”

The most striking example remains the Resident Evil 4 remake. “Not only did they rework the graphics, but they also made the tone darker and even changed the combat mechanics.” If the same logic applies to RE5, Chris Redfield and Sheva could experience a completely different adventure, more intense, more visceral, and above all more frightening.

A year 2026 under the sign of Resident Evil

Fans of the franchise will not have time to breathe. Alongside the probable Resident Evil 5 remakethe year 2026 will also see the arrival of Resident Evil Requiem and a new movie directed by Zach Cregger. Suffice to say that survival horror fans will be served.

And if all that wasn’t enough, the Resident Evil 5 remake is part of a frenetic content dynamic that Capcom seems to fully embrace: “An almost confirmed Resident Evil 5 is great news for the franchise, and 2026 is already shaping up to be an incredible year for Resident Evil fans.”
