In 2026, Mario celebrates his 40th birthday. And rather than blowing out candles alone in a castle, he invites himself to your console. Alongside the big events announced for the year (new games, films, collector’s editions, etc.), Nintendo is offering a selection of free digital giftsavailable directly on the Nintendo Switch.

40 new Super Mario icons are coming to Switch
Nintendo has just updated its icon portal. Result : 40 new portraits of the Mario universe are available to personalize your profile. We find there:
- Characters in wedding outfits (from Super Mario Odyssey)
- Feline versions of Mario, Luigi, Toad or Peach (inspired by Super Mario 3D World)
- Cult enemies like Piranha Plant or the Blooper
- Classics like the Flower of FireBowser or even the Game Boy
To this are added 20 new frames And 20 wallpapers to enhance your icons.
How to collect icons for free with your Platinum Points
These items are not purchased with real money but via free virtual currency from Nintendo : THE Platinum Points. Here’s how to get them easily:
- 30 points every week by connecting to My Nintendo
- Up to 70 points by completing the weekly missions
- One-off themed missions during seasonal events
Icons cost 10 points each, while backgrounds and frames are only worth 5 points. With a little anticipation, you can unlock everything without spending a cent.
Please note, these gifts disappear on February 16
This is where it gets tricky: this special Mario selection will only be available until February 16, 2026. After this date, it will be replaced by a new theme. And it’s not guaranteed that current icons will make a return in the future.
