Since its launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 arouses enthusiasm as well as impatience. While its material potential is beyond doubt, certain essential elements have been sorely lacking… until now.
Thanks to an unexpected leak of YouTube itself, we learn that a major multimedia application is on its way to enrich the user experience on Nintendo’s hybrid console. News that could well delight those who were waiting for more versatile use of their machine.
Nintendo Switch 2: a console still incomplete?
Since its release, the Nintendo Switch 2 has attracted many players thanks to its increased performance and its hybrid format faithful to Nintendo’s DNA. However, despite its technical qualities, some users remained disappointed by the absence of features that have become standard on other modern consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X|S.
Among the notable absentees: multimedia applications. Neither YouTube, nor Netflix, nor Disney+ were yet available, limiting the Switch 2 to purely video game use. This deficiency is now being corrected.
An official leak that leaves no room for doubt
It was on “The tweet was published prematurely, before the official announcement,” comments the author of the original article. “I wonder why so much secrecy for something that has been available on modern consoles for ages…” Since then, Nintendo has not officially confirmed the release date, but several leaks speak of a launch sometime in February.
Extended uses thanks to Joy-Con?
Beyond YouTube integration, some users hope that the application will take advantage of the specific features of the Switch 2. Joy-Conwith their gyroscopic sensors, could notably serve as remote or even mouse virtual to navigate the interface, an innovative feature that could distinguish the Switch from other consoles. For the moment, none of these options have been announced, but optimism reigns.
Towards a more multimedia future for the Switch 2?
The arrival of YouTube opens the way to many other applications such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Crunchyroll and Spotify. If Nintendo decides to enrich its ecosystem with these services, the Switch 2 could become a true family entertainment centerbeyond its primary vocation as a console. With such a development, Nintendo would finally join its competitors in their multimedia approach – a direction the community has been waiting for for years.
