You may have one more card to play, but time is running out. Starting tonight at 11:59 p.m., Nintendo is ending one of its most popular perks: game vouchers reserved for Switch Online subscribers. “The gaming voucher program will be discontinued on January 30, 2026.” Clearly, “it will no longer be possible to purchase game vouchers after 11:59 p.m. local time on January 30.”
Launched several years ago, this formula allowed you to purchase two Nintendo titles for €100 with a saving of around €20. But with the arrival of the Switch 2 and the rise in game prices, the system no longer holds up. “Vouchers are no longer valid for Switch 2 games”, greatly reducing their interest for players looking to the future.
Which games are still compatible with game vouchers?
The good news is that any vouchers purchased before tonight will remain valid for one year. You therefore have until January 2027 to use them, provided you have purchased them before midnight. This means that if you buy one today, you still have plenty of room to choose from the Nintendo Switch catalog.
But this choice is becoming more restricted day by day. As future Switch 2 games are excluded from the program, only titles still released for the current Switch can be exchanged for a voucher. Nintendo has also published an updated list on its site with all the games still eligible. “Nintendo still has a list of eligible games on its official website, including recent releases like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and the Switch 1 version of Pokémon Legends: ZA.”
Tomodachi Life: the perfect cartridge to reserve
Among the most anticipated compatible games, one name keeps popping up: Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. This title, announced with great fanfare by Nintendo, could well be the last in-house blockbuster before the switch to the new generation. “Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will be released on April 16, 2026”.
Better yet, the game is already available for pre-order and is one of the games exchangeable for a voucher. Many subscribers have confirmed it and the tip is now circulating on the forums: using it to reserve Tomodachi Life allows you to take full advantage of the offer before it is too late.
Two good ones, one opportunity not to be missed
Remember that the vouchers were only sold in pairs. If you’ve used one, you still have an opportunity. This second voucher can allow you to complete your collection with a recent game, or even a must-have that you don’t yet have in your library.
But be careful: after this evening, there is no longer any possibility of buying more. And there is currently no equivalent program for the Switch 2. It is therefore strongly recommended to make your choice today, even if use can wait several months.
And after? Nintendo keeps silent
For the moment, no announcement has been made regarding a replacement system for game vouchers on Switch 2. Rumors point to a new rewards format, but nothing official has filtered out. In the meantime, the last vouchers in circulation become a precious key to obtaining a Switch game at a lower cost.
