Xbox is launching an unexpected initiative at the start of the year: six playable demos are available now on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, without requiring a Game Pass subscription. Good news for players who want to test new things without paying anything. These demos are accessible directly via the Microsoft Store on console. All you need is an internet connection and a little storage to download them.

A varied selection with AAA and indie titles

Among the six demos available, three games clearly stand out:

  • Dragon Quest VII Reimaginedwhich allows you to transfer your progress to the final game scheduled for February 5.
  • Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Tiesa new iteration of the cult saga.
  • Code Vein 2whose demo only allows you to create your character for the moment.

The three other games, a little less known but just as interesting, are:

  • Hacked: The streamer
  • Star Trek: Voyager – Through the Unknown
  • Bubblegum Galaxy

Even if some content is limited (like the lack of gameplay in the demo of Code Vein 2), these free trials are the perfect opportunity to get an idea without taking any risks.

Why these demos are worth checking out

In a context where games often cost €60 or more, being able to test for free before purchasing is a real luxury. These demos are designed to provide a faithful overview of the final experience, sometimes with the possibility of keep your progress.

Xbox insists that this content is temporary: some demos will be removed soon of the blind. So it’s best to download them quickly if any of these titles interest you.

A smart (and smart) move on the part of Xbox

While Sony and Nintendo very rarely offer this type of free offer, Microsoft scores points by broadening access to its ecosystem without requiring Game Pass.

This type of initiative could well repeat in the months to comeespecially since several big launches are expected this year. One more reason to keep an eye on what’s new in the Microsoft Store.
