Borderlands 4: the release on Switch 2 has leaked, and it’s good news

While Gearbox’s silence suggested the worst, a simple product sheet reignites speculation. Borderlands 4, postponed without notice last year on Switch 2, could finally land at the end of February, if we are to believe the Portuguese site GamingReplay. The information is not official, but the precision of the date arouses the interest of fans.

The situation is all the more intriguing as the Switch 2 version was initially scheduled to be released a month after the other platforms, in October 2025. It was suddenly canceled a few days before going on sale, without a clear explanation. Since then, nothing. The sudden return of a possible date inevitably fuels the rumors. A surprising date… but credible?

February 27, 2026 is just over a month away. Unlike the usual placeholder dates (December 31, January 1, etc.), this one is not anecdotal. Retailers often err on the side of caution. There, the precision is astonishing. And suggests that this is not a simple estimate, but perhaps information given in advance to certain distributors.

This is not the first time that leaks have come from an e-commerce site. In recent years, several games have seen their release revealed in this way. Even if Gearbox has not confirmed anything, this date remains credible – if not guaranteed.

A highly anticipated port after lackluster sales

When it was released in September 2025, Borderlands 4 saw sales deemed “modest” by Take-Two, despite a place among the best sellers of the year. The reason: unstable performance on PC and a mixed reception on consoles. The postponement of the Switch 2 version only added to the confusion. Four months after the cancellation of pre-orders, this version could offer a second wind to the game, especially on a console where the supply of looter-shooters remains limited.

A stress test for the Switch 2

Since the Switch 2 was recently released, each port is examined closely. Borderlands 4 will be no exception. Especially since it would closely follow the successful release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which proved that the console could handle recent AAAs. The pressure is therefore strong on Gearbox to deliver a smooth port, without major concessions. Gamers expect a complete experience, without dramatic resolution drops or finicky framerates. Optimization will be scrutinized from the first hours.

Gearbox remains silent… for now

No official statement has come to confirm or deny this leak. This voluntary silence fuels the hypothesis of an imminent launch, prepared behind the scenes. At the time of the postponement, the studio simply admitted that the version was “not ready”, without announcing a new deadline. This vagueness persists, but the February 27 window seems realistic. It remains to be seen whether Gearbox and Nintendo will make it official in the coming weeks. In the meantime, fans are holding their breath.
