Cloud gaming Xbox: a 100% free offer approaching with 1 hour of play per session without subscription

According to the latest revelations shared by a recognized industry source, gamers could soon benefit from a completely free cloud gaming service. The formula would allow users to play streaming for a limited time, without paying anything. “One hour of ad-supported play per session” would be the promise of this offer, according to a screenshot shared by Tom Warren, specialist journalist at The Verge.

Access would be unlocked after viewing a short advertising segment. At this time, there is no indication whether additional interruptions will occur during the session or whether the single ad will be enough to activate the full hour of play.

A formula independent of Game Pass

Unlike traditional offers linked to a paid subscription, this new version of the service would be completely autonomous. “Funded by advertising, will be offered as a completely independent offer.” This means that even without Game Pass, users could access streaming, provided they accept the terms of the freemium model.

Initially only integrated into the Ultimate offer, the cloud gaming platform has gradually extended to other paid plans. This evolution towards a free version therefore represents a strategic turning point for the brand.

An already well-stocked game catalog

Good news for the curious: the catalog made available will be identical to that of current subscribers. It will include titles available through the classic offerings, as well as a growing range of games compatible with the “Stream Your Own Game” feature. Recent additions include Blood West, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, Resident Evil 3, and Octopath Traveler 0.

“Provided that a console version is available, Microsoft’s streaming infrastructure being based on dedicated Xbox Series X hardware”, the games offered remain efficient, even in streaming, with image quality and fluidity close to the physical console.

Global deployment on all compatible platforms

This free version should be accessible on all media already compatible with the paid service: Xbox One and Series X|S consoles, PC, smartphones, Steam Deck, and portable consoles like the ROG Ally

An open beta version is planned to precede the official launch. Enough to allow players to test the service, validate their internet connection and experience this new way of playing without commitment.
