A promise before the arrival of new people in charge
During his wishes for the new year, Maxis wanted to send a whole message about the future of the license The Simsstarting with what will not change despite this takeover:
“ The Sims has been around for over 25 years, so we’ve proudly displayed our non-conformism for over two decades. We play with the rules, twist them and, when inspiration strikes, turn them completely on their head. Our worlds have always been shifted. We celebrate marginality and cultivate our obsession with the details that make life… life. From the beginning, our values have been the basis of all our choices. Every risk taken, every feature added, and every crazy story our community creates comes from the values we stand for. They are a reflection of our vision for this franchise and the passion of the teams who designed it and who continue to design it, all over the world. They are at the origin of the game The Sims. »
The studio therefore reminds that the series will remain true to its values, or rather to its five pillars, namely creativity, entertainment, choices, community, and inclusion. It is undoubtedly this last point which is most called into question by this acquisition, given that the new bosses of EA are rather resistant to this value:
“ We want to portray the full spectrum of identities and personal expressions to represent and celebrate the diversity of our players. We’re creating features that let them create Sims in their own image, to explore their identities without judgment. It’s a never-ending job. We continue to learn, mature, and find new ways to represent each person. »
Maxis also wanted to take the floor to briefly discuss the future of the series, which is not really promising at the moment given the killing of a fifth episode. The studio recalls that it continues to work on PC, console, but also mobile games, such as Project Rene which has now evolved into a more “collaborative” format and which will arrive on smartphones. However, we are promised that solo experiences are not ruled out, quite the contrary :
“ The heart of The Sims series is an immersive single-player life simulation, rich in complex systems, captivating scenarios and offering great freedom of action. This legacy continues. We will continue to deliver content and updates for The Sims 4 and are committed to constantly improving the gaming experience. Single-player modes on PC and consoles will always remain our focus, and more than half of our international development team is dedicated to The Sims 4 and its future evolution. More information in the coming months! »
So expect that The Sims 4 still receives quite a bit of content during this year 2026.
