Fans of God of War may not have to wait very long to find out what the aftermath looks like God of War Ragnarok. While Santa Monica Studio already working on God of War: Sons of Sparta and on the God of War Trilogy Remakeseveral insiders agree: the next big episode would be ready for an imminent reveal.
At the center of the rumors, a project led by Cory Barlogpresented as a “new saga within the God of War universe”, with Faye into heroin. And in recent days, the leaks have accelerated significantly, to the point that some are talking about a possible announcement as early as April. What do these leaks really say, and how much can we believe in them?
Next God of War: an announcement really imminent?
In the podcast ofInsiderGamingthe renowned leaker Tom Henderson claims to have heard that the next “mainline” God of War “was expected to be announced very soon and in April.” The discussion focused on a possible State of Play PlayStation and on the key question: simple third-party showcase or presence of exclusives Sony Interactive Entertainment as Marvel’s Wolverine and this new God of War.
Officially, Sony has not confirmed anything. But this release from Tom Henderson arrives after a series of clues: a job offer spotted by Eurogamer evoking a “new saga”, then increasingly precise leaks on the casting and gameplay. Hence this impression that the project has reached a milestone and that Santa Monica is ready to show it.
A God of War centered on Faye, more nervous than ever?
March 1, the insider NateTheHate explained on X that the next game is “set in the God of War universe and the main character will be Faye”. We talk about Laufey the Justwife of Kratos and mother of Atreus, omnipresent figure in the 2018 episode and Ragnarok despite his absence on screen. The project would be separate from God of War: Sons of Sparta and of Trilogy Remakewhich would make it the truly first post-Ragnarök headline.
Another major change, gameplay-wise. According to Shpeshal Nickthe game would be closer to a Devil May Cry than the latest God of War, with an emphasis on sequences of blows, mobility and a much more aggressive rhythm. Where the Nordic episodes mixed action, RPG progression and long narrative sequences, this “Faye” component would aim for a more purely action experience, which could well divide as much as seduce.
When could this next God of War be released on PS5?
On the calendar, several sources aligned by Numerama and other media evoke a targeted release window for the first half of 2027. The pattern would be classic for a Sony AAA: reveal during 2026, ideally around a spring State of Play or a summer showcase, then 18 to 24 months of communication before the launch.
The game is expected to be an exclusive PS5possibly designed to take advantage of the more powerful models of the console, even if nothing has been decided for a PC port. There remains a major unknown: internal deadlines could still slip, pushing back the release towards the end of 2027. As long as Santa Monica Studio And Sony Interactive Entertainment are not speaking out, all this remains in the realm of rumor, even if the convergence of insiders suggests that we are finally getting closer to the long-awaited announcement.
