The Last of Us 3: release date leaked in new report, fans will be disappointed

Players were hoping for a “reasonable” window for The Last of Us 3somewhere around the release of the future PS6. A new report from the side of PlayStation seriously dampens the mood: the third part would be much further than expected, to the point of completely missing the current generation.

Behind this rumor, we find the supposed roadmap of Naughty DogOr The Last of Us Part III simply does not appear in priority projects. Between a new license, a possible return of Uncharted and the cancellation of the multi The Last of Us in 2023, the studio would be occupied for a very long time.

The Last of Us 3: what does the new release date leak really reveal?

The report comes from the insider Alirrelayed by ComicBook. He has already signed a few leaks deemed credible on the PlayStation side, which gives weight to his information, even if nothing is confirmed. According to him, Naughty Dog currently working on a new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophetas well as a new game Uncharted.

Crucial point: no mention of The Last of Us 3 in this roadmap. This silence fits with the words of Neil Druckmanwhich indicated in 2025 that The Last of Us Part III was not in development and the studio was focusing on Intergalactic

The Last of Us 3 on PS6 only: around 2030… or even 2035?

According to ComicBook, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet would aim for a release no earlier than 2027, seven years later The Last of Us Part IIlaunched in 2020. By imagining a generous rhythm of four years between each big game, the studio would continue Intergalactic (2027), then a new Unchartedbefore moving on to The Last of Us 3 around 2035. That would be about a fifteen year wait between the second and third episodes.

ComicBook sums it up this way: “The Last of Us 3 definitely won’t come out on PS5, and it’s doubtful it’ll come out on PS6.” Even if the future PlayStation 6 is expected around 2028, this projection would place TLOU3 in the second half of the generation at best. The French media remained more optimistic until now: Jeux.com spoke of a “not before 2028”, Journal du Geek of a horizon of 2029 or even after 2030, and Gameblog of a launch in the early 2030s, clearly designed for the PS6.

The Last of Us 3: should we still hope for a quick release or resign ourselves to waiting?

In the most fan-friendly scenario, the rumors surroundingUncharted would be false and Naughty Dog would follow directly Intergalactic Then The Last of Us 3. In this case, a 2030–2031 window remains possible, still on PS6. If, on the other hand, the studio releases a new Uncharted before returning to Ellie and Abby, the 2035 perspective put forward by ComicBook becomes credible.

Still, nothing is official: Neil Druckman certainly suggested that he had an idea for “another chapter”, but he also repeated that TLOU3 was not in production. For now, it’s best to follow closely Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and the series The Last of Us on HBO, rather than hoping to see The Last of Us 3 land on PS5.
