Work on a sequel to “KPop Demon Hunters” is reportedly already underway, but the release date is already a long way off. We summarize the current information for you.
No confirmation yet
Even though an official confirmation from Netflix or Sony is still pending, several renowned industry magazines have recently reported that a sequel film to “KPop Demon Hunters” has been decided.
However, the projected three-year production time with a planned release in 2029 is unlikely to be feasible, as Sony co-president Kristine Belson more or less confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
When asked about the time frame originally mentioned by Bloomberg “very far-fetched” Belson responded with an approving gesture, signaling that this assessment was correct. That wouldn’t be surprising, since the development of the first part took seven years.
At least she learned that the two directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans would direct a possible follow-up film again. Even without official confirmation, this suggests that the discussions and planning in the background are already well advanced.
Focus on side stories?
In addition to Belson, film producer Michelle Wong also commented on a possible second part of the most successful Netflix title of all time. In an interview with TheDirect, she revealed what stories she still wants to tell:
»I would like to know more about Mira and Zoey, where they come from and what their backgrounds are. Or even Derpy. More about his relationship with Sussie.”
Regardless of what the franchise has in store in the future, a live-action adaptation is still considered very unlikely because, according to those responsible, implementation would be too complex or not possible at all.
So it could be a while before new footage for “KPop Demon Hunters” appears. We will keep you updated on further developments.
