Sandfall Interactive discusses its next project and the studio’s philosophy for the future

Love of the arts, and nuances of tones

The studio has already stated this in the past, but it reiterates: there is no question of growing too much despite the success of Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33. This is what Guillaume Broche, CEO and creative director at Sandfall Interactive, once again indicated to IGN, when discussing the studio’s next project:

What I can say is that despite the big success we had with Expedition 33, we have no intention of growing the studio. By this I mean that there will be no major upheavals for the next game. We will stay with a small, super agile team, in order to release a second game that sounds very real and authentic. It will also take up the DNA of the studio, namely taking risks on many aspects and subjects. You have to keep in mind that Sandfall is a small artists’ house in which we only do projects that are close to our hearts and that we want to see exist. That’s what made Expedition 33 successful after all, and it’s really the most important thing to us. Regardless of success, we definitely don’t want to change this way of doing things. If I had to say just one thing about our next game, it’s that it will keep this famous “Sandfall spirit”. »

And precisely, what is this Sandfall spirit exactly? Well it is perhaps this famous “Clair Obscur” evoked by the name of the license itself, which represents the studio’s vision of perceiving its games, according to the response from the CEO at Eurogamer:

For me, Clair Obscur is above all a mark of artistic greatness and a vision of games at Sandfall. I used to use the term “art house”, and I am very attached to it. These are games that, in one way or another, exude a great artistic sensibility: music, visuals, graphics, story – ideally, all at once. This is why we also chose a very strong artistic theme, Clair Obscur. It reflects this, as well as contrast, something I particularly like in stories, where there is never total darkness or total light, but where the important thing is what is in between. It also reflects the philosophy of the studio itself. We make games that are both serious and dark, with some very light moments, of course, but overall we don’t take ourselves too seriously. »

It’s still too early to say if the studio’s next game will take place in the same universe as Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33but at least expect the studio to keep this philosophy going forward.
