30 years ago, Resident Evil terrified players with its zombies appearing without warning and its scary corridors. Can Requiem recreate this terror of yesteryear? That’s all the community hopes for. The author of the preview remembers his first encounter with an undead in 1996, and the unforgettable impact of this scene.
Capcom has always oscillated between horror and action in its saga. This time, the priority seems clear: to make people shiver. A promise made credible by the return of a cult character… and an intriguing new heroine. “It will feature a new protagonist for the series, Grace Ashcroft, a young aspiring FBI agent who is also the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak reporter Alyssa Ashcroft.”
Leon S. Kennedy: badass hero, but not invincible
Requiem also marks the return of one of the pillars of the franchise: Leon. “Leon S. Kennedy returns as a second playable character” If the trailers show a combative Leon, fans don’t want a simple action game. What made Resident Evil 4 remake strong was its balance between tension and efficiency. Here too, Leon will have to be put in danger, evolve in hostile environments, and never have the advantage. It is at this price that the identity of the license will be preserved.
Really different alternative scenarios
Requiem will feature two campaigns: one focused on Grace, the other on Leon. Fans are demanding that these scenarios offer deep variations, like in the original Resident Evil 2 from 1998, and not a simple copy and paste with little modification.
Different interactions, exclusive zones, decisions with consequences… Capcom has the opportunity to deliver an experience which embodies two truly opposing points of view, almost in parallel. An ideal tribute to the origins of the saga.
No unnecessary multiplayer, unless it’s Outbreak
Recent multiplayer spin-offs, like RE: Verse or Resident Evil: Resistance, have never found their audience. Fans have said it again and again: Requiem must remain a single-player narrative game, centered on survival horror. “All the focus should be on the game and any scripted DLC that might follow. Unless it’s a remaster of Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2, in which case I’ll forgive you.” The world of Raccoon City is self-sufficient. If Capcom wants to expand its game, let it do so through single-player post-launch content, not through sloppy side modes.
An imminent release for a turning point in the saga
Resident Evil Requiem will be available from February 27, 2026 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series
