Sony surprises its players at the beginning of February. An open-world game rated 86 on Metacritic is currently available as a free demo on PlayStation 5. And the best part? No PS Plus subscription is required to access, download or play it.
This is Nioh 3, the brand new title from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo, available since February 6, 2026. For the curious or the skeptical, this demo allows you to discover the first hours of the game at no cost, with the possibility of transferring your progress to the final version.
Nioh 3 free on PS5: an unconditional offer
While “free” games are often reserved for PlayStation Plus subscribers, this time, the publisher is offering a real gift to all players: access to a complete demo, without compensation. The approach is rare, and underlines the desire to Koei Tecmo to focus on direct experience with your community.
The demo of Nioh 3 can be downloaded now, and played without restrictions, as long as you finish it before February 15. This delay is not trivial, since it also conditions access to a special object in the final game: the Twin-Snake helmetreserved for players who completed the demo on time.
A generous and transferable demo
Beyond free access, the demo has been designed to be fully integrated into the full game experience. Indeed, saves are transferablea major asset for players who decide to continue the adventure after the test.
In his test, ScreenRant gave the game an 8/10, stating that: “Nioh 3 is a great starting point for action fans. As the styles are very open, the builds are much simpler to manage and create, and the open world structure is much easier to understand than the old level selection system.”
Nioh 3, one of the highest rated games of 2026
With a score of 86 on MetacriticNioh 3 stands out as one of the best games of the year. It retains the demanding mechanics specific to RPGs of the type soulslikewhile adapting them to a more accessible and open format.
Certainly, certain aspects can still be improved: “Even if the open world of Nioh 3 is not as developed as in other current AAA titles, the solid foundation of the Nioh series remains entirely intact.” This sincerity in the criticism does not prevent the game from being highly recommended.
An invitation to test before buying
This initiative to offer a demo accessible to all also responds to an economic reality: the price of games continues to increase. Nothing beats direct experience to form an opinion. As pointed out ScreenRant : “I’m sure that by the end of the Nioh 3 demo, you’ll know whether you want to continue or move on.”
