PS5: Sony adds a revolutionary new feature, here’s what it changes

Recently, PS5 players can now view their progress in a campaign directly from their smartphone, without needing to turn on their console. A modest but extremely useful improvement, which is aimed at all those whose “pile of shame” continues to grow.

Follow your PS5 campaigns from the mobile application

It’s a fact: between big AAA releases, flash promotions and free games, the temptation to accumulate titles without ever finishing them has become a habit among many players. But with this update, Sony seems to want to reverse the trend. The PlayStation mobile application now allows you to display the percentage of progress in the main campaign of a game, where this information was previously only visible on the console.

This little addition can make a real difference. Knowing that you are 78% of a game can encourage you to restart it, instead of abandoning it in favor of another shorter one. You still need to have the right reflex at the right time, which is finally made possible by mobile consultation.

A discreet, but highly requested feature

This new display has not escaped the most attentive players, especially on Reddit. User MeRoyMinoy asked: “New feature in the PS app, what do you think?” – triggering a wave of enthusiastic and critical reactions.

Among the remarks, one point of improvement often mentioned: the lack of generalized access to data. As another user, SprayNo5555, explains: “I wish we could see the times and percentage of all games played somewhere in the app, not just the last three.”

For now, only the progress of the main campaign is available, as is the case on Call of Duty, which displays an overall percentage but does not take into account multiplayer trophies.

Towards more complete tracking on mobile?

Despite this progress, some remain hungry. Play time, for example, remains absent from the mobile application, and must still be consulted via the console. A choice which is undoubtedly explained by the low reliability of this data: the estimates take into account breaks or periods of inactivity.

Sony does not officially communicate on this update. But this improvement suggests a desire to offer more in-depth monitoring in the long term, to better support players in their sprawling library. It remains to be hoped that other functions – such as tracking hours, trophies or even backward compatible PS4 games – will enrich the experience.
