You don’t need to be a Pokémon master to have your Mega Gems. If you got your hands on Pokémon Legends: ZA when it released, you may have quickly learned that some rewards weren’t for everyone. In particular the famous Mega-Gems allowing Kalos starters (Feunnec, Grenousse, Marisson) to mega-evolve… provided they try online ranked mode.
Until now, obtaining these special items was almost an elitist challenge: you had to climb numerous ranks and devote considerable time to competitive confrontations. Many solo players quickly gave up. The Pokémon Company seems to have heard their criticism.
A more generous season 2, even for beginners
From November 5Season 2 of Ranked Combat mode will considerably ease the conditions for obtaining it. From now on, “players will be able to receive Greninjite at rank Y and Delphoxite at rank S”. In other words, gems become accessible from the first levels of the ranking, compared to a much higher level during the previous season.
But the most notable change lies in the points mechanics: “you will be able to obtain a Greninjite in a single ranked fight, even in case of defeat”. From now on, each action in combat (style bonus, successful strategies, effectiveness of types, etc.) earns points, which allows you to progress without necessarily winning all your matches. A detail that changes everything.
Another good surprise: the classification system sometimes allows you to skip several rows at once if your performances are considered solid, even in a few fights.
And after? More Mega Gems on the horizon
This rebalancing is not an isolated blow. Developers seem to have engaged in a more inclusive dynamic. According to the first information relayed, the season 3 could introduce the Chesnaughtiteanother highly anticipated Mega Gem, at a rank similar to Rank S.
Better yet, “Méga-Gemmes will continue to be regularly reissued in future seasons”. In other words, if you miss a season, nothing is lost. You will have other opportunities to complete your collection in the future.
This design choice is welcomed by the majority of players, who are now hoping for an extension of this model to other exclusive objects or alternative forms.
Good news for solo players
Even if ranked mode remains mandatory to obtain stones, this update fundamentally changes the situation. A few fights are enough to unlock the coveted items. And once the three Kalos starters are mega-evolved, there’s no forcing you to go back online if that’s not your thing.
For fans of history and exploration, it’s a liberation: no longer need to sacrifice your free time to multiplayer competition to unlock the essential content.
