Nintendo: Mario and Yoshi arrive as a free download on Switch with a new app

Nintendo continues to make a difference by offering free fun experiences, accessible to all. After the success of the mobile application Hello Mariolaunched last August on Android and iOS, the Japanese publisher has just announced a spiritual sequel dedicated to Yoshithis time planned directly for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Yoshi arrives as a free application on Switch from November 18

Planned for the November 18, 2025 initially on the Japanese eShop, the new application centered on Yoshi will use the stop-motion format initiated with Hello, Mario. Nintendo offers simple and fun interactions designed for little ones, while riding on the popularity of emblematic characters from the Mario universe.

Here’s how the company presents the content of this application dedicated to Yoshi: “Pull out Yoshi’s tongue so he eats objects, or make Yoshis of different colors appear coming out of eggs. Have fun with this mysterious Yoshi with varied expressions.”

But Nintendo goes even further by integrating a rhythm mechanic designed for children: “After a certain amount of play, Yoshi will fall asleep. You cannot play while he is sleeping, so take this information into account for times when your child is resting.”

A strategic launch to prepare for the arrival of the Super Mario Galaxy film

This free novelty comes at the right time: it coincides with the rise in communication around the sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie.scheduled for April 2026. This sequel, titled Super Mario Galaxy, will feature Yoshi in a central role, alongside other creatures of its kind.

Nintendo therefore seems to be capitalizing on the synergy between its games, its mobile applications and its cinema licenses. Enough to retain children through various formats, while reminding parents of the transgenerational power of its cult heroes.

For the moment, no date has been announced for the release of the Yoshi application in European eShops. But its global launch seems imminent, judging by the schedule of previous Play Nintendo releases.
