Mario Party 4 lands for free on PC, Nintendo fans can finally play it differently

Twenty-two years after its release on Nintendo GameCube, Mario Party 4 finally arrives on PC in the form of a free native port, without using the emulator Dolphin. Modders relied on the complete decompilation of the game to offer a PC executable, reported by DSOGamingwhich is already getting a lot of talk from Nintendo fans looking for nostalgia. For the first time, “Mario Party 4 PC free” is no longer just a forum dream.

Be careful though: this port is a very early alpha version, riddled with bugs and potential crashes. It remains reserved for players ready to tinker a minimum and accept an experience that is far from perfectly stable. Above all, this is not a shortcut to piracy, but a project designed around the possession of a legitimate copy of the game. Let’s see what this port really allows, and how to access it without putting yourself in danger.

Mario Party 4 free on PC: what does this native port bring?

This unofficial project, hosted on the repository GitHub mariopartyrd/marioparty4reconstructed the code of Mario Party 4 to run it as a real Windows, macOS or Linux application. Unlike traditional emulation, the PC directly runs a recompiled version of the game, which ultimately opens the way to more graphics tweaks, mods and modern features.

Mario Party 4released in 2002 on GameCube, remains a party game classic: a board, dice throws, around fifty mini-games and a cast that lines up Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Wario, Waluigi or Donkey Kong. As recalled Android Authorityit is the first fully decompiled GameCube game, a major milestone for the preservation and modding of the console Nintendo.

How to play Mario Party 4 on PC without emulator or hacking?

First essential condition: possess a legitimate copy of Mario Party 4 in American version. The port currently only works with US ROMs referenced GMPE01 Rev 0 or Rev 1. The European PAL versions, therefore discs sold in France, as well as the Japanese editions are not supported for the moment.

The files provided by the developers do not contain any Nintendo assets, only code. Concretely, you download the project on GitHub, you yourself provide the disk image extracted from your GameCube game, then you compile everything to obtain an executable. The filing outlines the procedure for Windows, macOS and Linux, but we will not provide links to ROMs or a tutorial on how to circumvent the law.

In France, copying a game that you own for your private use remains a delicate legal subject, especially when you download disc images online. The message is simple: do not collect ROMs from dubious sites, stay within the legal framework and inform yourself before you start.

Mario Party 4 on PC: what limits today, and what’s next for the GameCube?

This alpha version of Mario Party 4 on PC is mainly aimed at retro and modding enthusiasts. The developers warn to expect crashes, unstable minigames, and missing features. For a hassle-free multiplayer evening, emulation via Dolphin remains simpler and more reliable for the moment.

Ultimately, however, complete decompilation opens up interesting perspectives, mentioned by TechSpot : native online multiplayer, balance fixes, new modes or advanced graphics options. Other GameCube titles could follow this path if the modding scene continues its momentum. A major unknown remains the reaction of Nintendo, which has already closed numerous fan projects, even if the absence of assets in this port complicates a possible withdrawal this time.
