Six “My Neighbor Totoro” projects have broken the 10,000 supporter mark on LEGO Ideas and are currently being reviewed. We summarize.
Official exam phase
Building block fans all over the world can present their specially created product ideas to the whole world via the LEGO Ideas website – and if they are well received there, i.e. receive over 10,000 “supports” from other fans, the project will move into an official LEGO review phase in which designers, product managers and other important team members will analyze whether it can be implemented as their own set.
With currently over 32,000 submissions, the fan-oriented concept is enjoying great popularity, with more and more anime ideas looking for supporters.
What particularly stands out is the popular Ghibli franchise “My Neighbor Totoro,” of which six different sets have received the required amount of support and are currently being reviewed by LEGO.
It remains to be seen whether the first official LEGO set for “My Neighbor Totoro” will be announced soon. However, several Ghibli submissions have been rejected in the past, which could be an indication of difficult licensing negotiations. We’ll keep you updated in any case.
