The fantasy of fans of Keanu Reeves and pinpoint action could soon become reality. Lionsgate, the studio behind the John Wick film saga, has just officially confirmed that a AAA-type video game is in development, with the ambition of capturing all the intensity and lethal elegance of the films. The announcement was made during a call to the group’s investors, proof that the project is no longer a rumor but a priority strategic objective.
An ambitious video game project for John Wick
This future John Wick game is not a first foray into the gaming world. In 2019, John Wick Hex had proposed an original tactical approach, praised but very far from the visceral experience expected by the general public. This time, Lionsgate wants to hit hard with an AAA production, synonymous with a substantial budget, technical resources on par with blockbusters and a release on PC and next-gen consoles.
“We have AAA video game opportunities like John Wick and Saw that will be announced soon,” said Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
An actor cut out for video games
Keanu Reeves is not making his digital debut. His incarnation of the character Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 showed how his aura and commitment can reinforce the quality of a video game work. His return in a John Wick game is still uncertain, but given his past involvement and the very nature of the project, the hypothesis seems realistic and expected by the community.
Gameplay that matches the films?
While no images or gameplay details have yet leaked, fans hope to find in this future game the stylized choreography of “gun-fu”, the cinematic shootouts and the neon atmosphere that make the saga so special. The experience could be inspired by licenses like Max Payne, Hitman Or Sifuto match the brutal and strategic spirit of the character.
Lionsgate invests massively in video games
Beyond John Wick, this announcement is part of a broader strategy: Lionsgate wants to exploit its flagship franchises in interactive form. At the same time, another game around the horror license Saw is also in preparation. The studio is thus beginning a shift towards reinforced transmedia, at the crossroads of cinema and gaming.
