Frustration with “Freeze”: Fern pushes her speaker to the limit

In an interview, the Japanese voice actors of the anime adaptation of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” (Japanese: “Sousou no Frieren”) spoke about the original work and the relationships of the characters. We summarize.

»I feel great frustration«

Although the manga series “Freezing: Beyond Journey’s End” is currently on an indefinite break due to the poor health of Kanehito Yamada (story) and Tsukasa Abe (illustrations), it has already thrilled millions of readers since its launch in 2020 – although there are also critical voices.

As Kana Ichinose, the Japanese speaker for Fern, revealed in a recent interview with her colleagues Atsumi Tanezaki (Freeze) and Chiaki Kobayashi (Strong), there is a certain aspect of the manga that particularly drives her to despair:

»When I slip into my role, I immerse myself completely in Fern’s world of thoughts. However, when I read the template again, I feel great frustration. On the one hand, I think their awkwardness suits them both perfectly [Fern und Stark] Fits, but on the other hand, Sein’s cry of ‘Finally come together!!!’ echoes in me.”

Although Stark and Fern are about the same age, he initially finds it visibly difficult to find an approach to her, which is why there are always arguments about insignificant little things. Nevertheless, the series makes it clear that there are stronger feelings behind their behavior.

The ten-part second season of “Freeze: Beyond Journey’s End” has been running in simulcast on Crunchyroll since January 16, 2026. The sixth episode will be released after a one-week break on February 27, 2026.
