Falcom finally gives us a new opus after Tokyo Xanadu on PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 1 & 2

Kyoto Xanadu also shows its cast

Even if Falcom had already teased this new opus in 2024, the Japanese studio is now offering us a real tour of the owner through a trailer that is particularly generous with information. It should be remembered that Falcom remains a modest-sized structure, having to juggle its two major licenses: Ys And The Legend of Heroes. After Tokyo in 2015, the wait for a new episode was therefore particularly strong.

What distinguishes the franchise from other more heroic fantasy-oriented series is its contemporary urban setting, anchored in modern Japan and mixed with supernatural dimensions. An approach which inevitably recalls the license Persona from Atlus. With Kyotothis time we are immersed in the ancient capital of Japan, alongside a whole new group of heroes. These teenagers are students at Hirasaka Academy, an establishment for gifted students, whose objective is to conquer the Xanadu labyrinth.

The story thus progresses through exploring the real world of Kyoto and strengthening the characters’ abilities, alternating with phases of exploration and combat within the labyrinth where strange phenomena occur. The trailer also highlights several new features, including 2D sequences. An official website has just opened containing more information.

Kyoto is planned for this summer on PC (via Steam), PS5 and both Nintendo Switch.
