While many players take advantage of the holidays to dive back into their favorite games, Cyberpunk 2077 offers a welcome touch of freshness. More than five years after its release, the CD Projekt Red title continues to live on thanks to a community of modders that remains as active as ever, capable of transforming the gaming experience throughout the seasons.
The Christmas period is particularly conducive to this type of creation. On PC, mods allow you to make visual, sound or even narrative changes, at no additional cost to players. This year, a new free mod has just dressed Night City in holiday colors, offering a new atmosphere to those who roam the city during the holidays.
A free Christmas mod to transform Night City
The mod is called More Apartment Toys – Christmas Edition and is available now on Nexus. This is a special version of a mod already known to players, adapted specifically for the Christmas period. Its objective is simple: add a festive dimension to V’s apartments, without changing the basic gameplay.
Concretely, the mod introduces AV drones decorated with a Christmas theme in several emblematic buildings of the game, including The Glen, H10 and Japantown. These drones can fly over apartments and are accompanied by seasonal visual and sound effects, transforming the usually dark atmosphere of Cyberpunk 2077 into something lighter and more offbeat.
The mod also features an alternate landing platform for these toys, decorated for the occasion with piles of gifts in place of the usual items. Personalized flight routes have also been added, allowing drones to cross apartments using new trajectories.
Festive details right down to the sounds and animations
The special Christmas edition is not just a simple visual change. The drone itself takes on a completely holiday aesthetic, with Christmas colors, a pile of presents attached to the back, and four holographic reindeer pulling it through the air.
Added to this are specific sound effects. Bells ring out during the flight, accompanied by a little Christmas melody played in a loop, with random delays to avoid too mechanical repetition. These details reinforce the immersion and give the impression that Night City is also celebrating the end of the year in its own way.
The creator of the mod, known under the pseudonym Deceptious, clarified that after the holidays, this version would return to a standard mod, without the seasonal elements. He also discussed the possibility of expanding the concept to other locations, such as the Corpo Plaza building, although some environments, like the Northside Motel, might be too small to accommodate this type of addition.
A mod that integrates with other Christmas creations
More Apartment Toys – Christmas Edition works perfectly with other festive mods already available for Cyberpunk 2077. Some, for example, add Christmas trees to each of V’s apartments, while others offer additional accessories and decorations scattered around the city.
This compatibility allows players to create a real Christmas version of Night City, by combining several mods without difficulty. An approach which once again illustrates the richness of the modding ecosystem around the game, made possible by the tools made available by CD Projekt Red.
Cyberpunk 2077 continues to evolve thanks to its community
Even if the development of the sequel, provisionally titled Cyberpunk 2, is only in its early stages, Cyberpunk 2077 remains a privileged playground for creators. At the same time, CD Projekt Red is working on several major projects, including The Witcher IV, a remake of the first The Witcher and other games not yet detailed.
In the meantime, these free initiatives allow PC players to rediscover Cyberpunk 2077 from a different perspective, at no additional cost. An ideal opportunity to dive back into Night City during the holidays, with a decidedly warmer atmosphere than usual.
