Black Ops 7: Warzone shakes up the meta with radical changes

Faced with a community losing enthusiasm, Raven Software decided to strike hard. Ahead of Season 1 of Black Ops 7, the developers are promising a complete overhaul of the meta in Call of Duty: Warzone. Through a long thread published on X, the studio announces that weapons will be rebalanced up to four times per season, or potentially every fortnight. A risky bet, but one that could give a boost to a game whose gameplay has been going in circles for months.

Limited attachments, default overkill, and hardened weapon identities

First shock decision: each weapon will now be limited to a maximum of five accessories. The Gunfighter Wildcard is removed, while Overkill becomes a default choice for all players. Raven wants to avoid over-personalization in favor of more readable gameplay, with a clear objective: “expanding build diversity and making every decision meaningful.”

The studio adds that each weapon class must find its own usefulness: “that every weapon class feels unique and purposeful”. This will result in concrete choices: AR magazines will, for example, be limited to 60 bullets, to preserve the role of LMG machine guns. Slug shotguns will be able to kill with a single headshot at their maximum range.

A mobile and adaptive meta every two weeks

Raven goes further. Each season will see major balance updates, with up to four meta changes over two months. This involves constantly redefining which weapons are most effective and forces players to constantly adapt. The adjustments will be specific to Warzone, independent of classic multiplayer, with specific statistics. “this means that every tuning decision has been shaped specifically for Warzone pacing, engagement distances, and time-to-kill” announces the studio, specifying that “the difference will be immediately noticeable.”

Old weapons won’t be left behind

Finally, Raven reassures veterans of the series: weapons from old chapters will remain available. “weapons from prior chapters will remain available for players who want to revisit older blueprints or simply enjoy them for nostalgia.” A nod to the community, which appreciates the return of old iconic arsenals. The diversity of weapons should therefore be there from season 1, scheduled for December 4, 2025.
