The end of a very bad chapter for EA and BioWare
Released in 2019 at a time when there were already many service games that were hitting a wall, Anthem seemed to be doomed from the start, the fault of an unconvincing structure. The studio ventured into territory that it did not master, by pushing the multiplayer aspect and a replayability which was never sufficient to maintain a semblance of community, despite some appreciable flashes in the gameplay.
And if support for the game was quickly abandoned despite the desire for an aborted overhaul, the servers were holding up until now. An expense that clearly could no longer last at Electronic Arts, which decided to take the game offline today.
The killing of the game’s servers was announced a few months ago, leaving a few diehards to enjoy the title for several more weeks before cutting everything. The absence of a real single-player and offline mode is also thatAnthem will no longer be playable within a few hours, and will therefore disappear permanently, even if you have purchased the game. A big mess that follows bad decisions, while his studio continues to pay the price.
