After leaks: New “Evangelion” short film now on YouTube

On the official website of “Evangelion” it was announced today that the brand new anime short film for the franchise is now available for free on YouTube – especially in order to curb the spread of leaks.

Official material leaked

The almost 15-minute “Evangelion” short film was originally developed exclusively for the big final event on the 30th anniversary of the series and premiered there on February 23, 2026. Even before the screening began, it was pointed out that recording and uploading images was strictly prohibited.

However, the producer and rights holder Studio khara announced that unauthorized film footage had been distributed on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the event. Therefore, a deletion request was sent to the platform and official film material was attached as proof to confirm its own copyrights.

Due to a misunderstanding on the part of khara, the account in question received access to the original material and downloaded it as part of the reporting process at The person then spread this on social networks – including X – on the morning of March 7, 2026 (JST).

In order to quickly bring the situation under control, the decision was made to publish the short film for free on YouTube – although so far without subtitles. You can find the video below these lines.

At the closing event for the 30th anniversary of “Evangelion,” a new anime series for the franchise was also announced, which is currently being created at the khara and CloverWorks studios. There is a first teaser at this link.
