The game director is not against AI, provided he does not replace the artists

“A machine will never understand us so much”

AI in the industry is a more democratized tool than one might believe, even if many studios and publishers are careful not to say that they use it. At Rebel Wolves for example, the tool was indeed used at some point in the development of The Blood of Dawnwalkerbut only temporarily :

We used AI for vocals during the testing phase before recordings. My experience on previous projects showed me that we understand much better by hearing the voices, and we wanted to have them as quickly as possible to test the game and improve it. Once the story and gameplay were validated, we began recording with the actors. This is how we used AI in our company, and I think it makes perfect sense. »

Tomaszkiewicz adds that “ AI should help people, not replace them », taking as an example another use of AI in the quality assurance sector, which is one of the sectors most impacted by the AI phenomenon today. Instead of replacing the people who work in this sector, the director says that AI could allow the studio to relocate them to certain specific tasks while the AI checks less exciting things:

Honestly, I would rather automate the process – we have the tools for that, not an AI, but our own tool – and let these people tell me if the game is good. If the gaming experience is satisfactory, if the story is good and the dialogues convincing: the players understand them, feel emotions, etc. This is how we should harness the talent of creatives. »

There is no question of replacing the artists for him, who are the soul of a project:

I don’t believe AI will replace creative people. It can help them, but not replace them. I don’t think games created solely by AI will have a soul. I really don’t believe it. I recently finished Dispatch, which is my game of the year. I love this game. And I don’t believe AI can create something like this. It’s impossible. You need people who feel emotions, who have this creative flame, who want to prove something, who want to tell a story and arouse emotions at specific moments. A machine will never understand us that much. »

The Blood of Dawnwalker is expected sometime in 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
