Thirteen years after the global success of GTA V, Rockstar is preparing to strike a big blow with Grand Theft Auto 6. The game, expected for May 26, 2026, promises to be the most ambitious in the franchise, with a map even larger and denser than all those of the previous opuses combined. Players will find the familiar atmosphere of Vice City, revisited under the name of Leonida, a huge territory inspired by Florida.
But beyond the size of the card, it is above all the new features which arouse curiosity. Rockstar has confirmed five major items, from both credible leaks and official announcements. Some take up popular mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2, others introduce radical innovations, starting with the introduction of a duo of playable characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Dialogue, interior, ocean: Rockstar redefines gameplay
Among the most anticipated new features, the arrival of a dialogue interaction system inherited from Red Dead Redemption 2. Unlike GTA V, where the dialogues remained very scripted, GTA 6 will offer contextual choices with options like “Hi”, “Threat”, “Flight”, offering enhanced immersion in each encounter with the NPCs.
Another major transformation: the ability to explore more than 700 indoor locations, ranging from motels to restaurants, nightclubs, pawn shops and shopping centers. Unlike the old shutters where most of the doors remained closed, GTA 6 promises fluid navigation between interior and exterior, without interruption in exploration.
Underwater areas are also becoming richer. Where GTA V offered limited missions, GTA 6 will allow you to dive into coral reefs, observe marine wildlife – including dolphins – and avoid certain dangers such as sharks. Treasures and secrets will be scattered throughout the depths, encouraging exploration.
Lots of activities… and a woman at the heart of the action
Rockstar also wants to make the world more alive. No more empty areas: GTA 6 will offer basketball courts, mini golf, fishing, hunting, sports activities like boxing, tennis or indoor training. So many occupations directly integrated into the open world, inspired by RDR2, with the added bonus of an expanded bestiary including… alligators.
But the real revolution undoubtedly comes from the choice of characters. For the first time since the very first GTA, a woman will be playable. Lucia, originally from Liberty City, shares the bill with Jason, an ex-military man. The duo evolves in a romantic dynamic tinged with crime, inspired by the myth of Bonnie & Clyde. The player will be able to play as Jason, Lucia, or both at the same time thanks to three distinct modes: “Solo Jason”, “Solo Lucia” and “simultaneous control of both characters”.
The GTA 6 universe therefore promises to be more alive, denser, and more interactive than ever. It remains to be seen whether all these promises will deliver on release day.
