Leaks keep coming around Pokémon Gen 10, and this one could well be a game changer. Relayed by Centro Leaks, the latest revelation does not yet reveal the appearance of the starters, but their method of obtaining them. And unlike previous games, it will not be a simple choice placed on a table in a laboratory.
According to Centro Leaks, the game would begin with the arrival of the protagonist on an island, the main setting of the adventure. While on his way to his hotel, he discovers that the city streets are completely paralyzed. The cause? Pokémon on the loose have caused chaos, blocking all traffic. “The protagonist has just arrived on the island and is on his way to the hotel. The city streets are completely blocked. Apparently Pokémon have escaped, and cars can no longer move.”
An introductory scene worthy of an action movie
It is in this unexpected context that the three starters would make their appearance. Rather than quietly choosing his partner, the player should first intervene on the field. Three Pokémon would rush into the fray, and one would have to be caught to calm the situation. A stranger would then launch a call for help, shouting “Hey, you over there!” before screaming “Catch them!”.
This active and immersive approach contrasts with the classic mechanics of the series. It suggests Game Freak’s desire to anchor the player in the action from the first minutes, while linking the choice of starter to a decisive moment in the scenario.
A game shaped by infinity
If the mystery remains about the types or designs of the starters, this new episode would be part of a very particular philosophy. The theme of the generation would be infinity. “Theme: Infinite”announce the documents. An idea translated into gameplay by a procedurally generated region, in perpetual transformation. “They will procedurally generate new islands, so the region is technically infinite and constantly changing.”
This bold choice would place Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Waves against the grain of previous opuses, banking on endless exploration and a reinterpretation of the open world begun in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Behind this project, we would find Shigeru Ohmori, veteran of the license, already at the helm of several previous generations. The game’s release has not been confirmed, but many are betting on an official announcement during Pokémon Day next February.
