Pokémon Legends: ZA caused a sensation with her trailer, between mature scenario, new gameplay and controversy on the DLC

This is a bit of the moment that fans were waiting without daring to believe it too much. This October 2, Nintendo published a new video presentation by Pokémon Legends: ZA, scheduled for October 16 on Switch and Switch 2. And this time, it is no longer just a question of mega-evolutions or fights: the accent is put on history, the characters and the narrative universe of the game. The preview, lasting six minutes, was widely hailed by the community, persistent around the DLC announced before the release.

From the first images, the game reveals a magnified illumination, with unpublished areas, revisited music and a much more immersive atmosphere than expected. As an enthusiastic fan points out: “The video offers us a better overview of Illumis, showing several areas still unpublished. It also reveals a revisited version of Kalos music, which fans appreciate a lot. But the best, in my opinion, is that we learn a little more about the scenario of the game.”

An investigation in the heart of the city of light

The plot promises to be richer than expected. Pokémon Legends: ZA seems to draw from the spirit of detective Pikachu to offer a game mixing exploration and investigation. “It looks like we’re going to be inspired by detective Pikachu, teaming up with an investigator to resolve mysteries in Illumis,” reveals the trailer. This narrative bias clearly contrasts with the previous opus centered on combat mechanics, and could seduce players in search of renewal.

The mystery of unleashed mega-evolutions will be one of the red threads in history. “The trailer specifies that the mystery of unleashed mega-evolutions is one of the cases you will have to investigate, which suggests that other incidents are waiting for the MZ team.” This still mysterious team could play a central role in the evolution of the story. The tone is set: between drama, puzzles and narrative tension, legends: ZA is moving towards a more mature register.

A relaunched hype, but a persistent controversy

Despite the general enthusiasm, some points continue to divide. The announcement of a paid DLC even before the launch of the game left a bitter taste to a part of the players. An online comment sums up the ambient frustration: “Announce a DLC even before the release of the game is insane.” Nintendo’s commercial strategy is perceived as premature, even counterproductive by a fringe of the public.

Another question: this trailer seems exclusively from the Switch 2 version. The absence of gameplay sequences on the current switch arouses concerns about the technical performance of the game on existing consoles. While the release is approaching, the question of compatibility remains unanswered.
