In a recent interview, Japanese singer Ado spoke not only about her anonymity, but also about her international ambitions and the huge reactions to her latest music video. We summarize.
Ado remains true to the “Utaite” culture
Speaking to the Pasadena Star-News, Ado made it clear that she currently has no plans to reveal her identity publicly and is very comfortable with her role as a so-called “Utaite” singer.
In the “Utaite” scene, everything revolves around the music: hobby singers upload cover versions of well-known songs online and usually remain anonymous. Ado also started her career on this path and achieved her breakthrough.
While many artists give up their anonymity with increasing success, join major labels and make their way into the mainstream, Ado manages an unusual balancing act: she celebrates great success in the Japanese music business and still remains loyal to the “Utaite” scene.
“Vivarium” caused speculation
The topic recently received particular attention through the music video of her new song “Vivarium,” in which parts of her face were visible for the first time.
This led fans to suspect that Ado might gradually reveal her identity. With her current statements, however, she made it clear that she is not currently considering such things.
At the same time, she emphasized that she was pleased about the worldwide attention that her music was now receiving. According to her own statements, she never expected that her works would find such a large audience, especially in the USA.

International destinations
In addition to her stance on anonymity, Ado also spoke about her international plans. She could therefore imagine singing more in English in the future and establishing her music even more outside of Japan.
Appropriately, she recently performed at the “Zipangu” music festival in the USA, which was organized by her management agency Cloud Nine and is intended to promote the international distribution of Japanese music.
Ado is now one of the most successful Japanese artists of her generation and achieved great international fame primarily through songs such as “Usseewa”, “Show” and her contributions to the soundtrack of “One Piece Film: Red”.
