Devil May Cry has good news and bad news for fans

Fans of Devil May Cry can blow… and grit their teeth at the same time. A few weeks after the release of season 2 on May 12, 2026, the animated series of Netflix is officially renewed for a season 3. The South Korean American anime, adapted from the cult license of Capcom and hosted by Studio Mirremains in the overall Top 10 of the platform, worn by Dante, demon hunter in the red cloak.

But this good news hides another, less encouraging one: this season 3 will also be the last. Netflix will therefore end the story after this new arc, presented as the culmination of the current saga.

Devil May Cry season 3 on Netflix: why is this good news?

Until now, the specialized French media remained cautious, talking about rumors of renewal and a still unconfirmed season 3. The announcement of June 4, 2026 puts an end to the suspense: Netflix orders a third season of Devil May Crydescribed as “third and final season”.

The decision is based on real figures. According to the streamer, season 1 has accumulated 21.7 million views in 2025 and season 2 6.4 million views in just two weeks, with a repeated presence in the Top 10 overall. For an adaptation of a tense action game into anime, this is a solid score which validates the bet of Adi Shankar and of Studio Mir.

As a reminder, the series follows Dante, an orphaned demon hunter, stuck in the middle of a plot to open a portal between the human world and the demonic realm. The vocal distribution notably brings together Johnny Yong Bosch (Dante), Robbie Daymond (Vergil) and Scout Taylor-Compton (Lady).

Why will Devil May Cry season 3 also be the last on Netflix?

The “bad” news is that this season 3 marks the end of the series. But it’s not a brutal cut, rather the culmination of a plan thought out from the start. Adi Shankar tells Deadline: “For those of you who paid attention to the names of the episodes, I showed you the structure from the beginning. It was always Dante’s Divine Comedy, with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso. These three seasons make up the ‘Force Edge Saga’. From the beginning, the ‘Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a film trilogy disguised as a TV series.

Concretely, no season 4 is planned in this vision. Season 3, implicitly subtitled “Paradiso”, must serve as a conclusion to the Dante/Vergil arc, the legacy of Sparda and the war between humans and demons initiated in the first two seasons.

For fans of games or anime, the advantage is clear: rather than an artificial extension, Devil May Cry promises a constructed ending, with a beginning, a middle and a real conclusion.

Devil May Cry season 3 Netflix: what we already know about Paradiso and the rest for the license

Officially, we know two things: season 3 has been ordered and it will be the last. Netflix remains a global broadcaster, and everything indicates that Studio Mir, Adi Shankar And Capcom are back, even if the return of the voice casting has not yet been formally confirmed.

No release date has been announced at this time. The French press was already mentioning a 2027 window as a logical hypothesis given animation production cycles, but it must be taken as an estimate, not as an official commitment from Netflix.

Story-wise, the end of season 2 leaves several issues open around Dante, his twin brother Vergil and demonic threats such as Mundus or Argosax. Without spoiling, it is reasonable to expect a “Paradiso”-style final confrontation, with higher stakes for both worlds.

One question remains for fans of the license Capcom : once the Force Edge Saga completed, will we see other adaptations, spin-offs or arcs inspired by other games Devil May Cry ? For the moment, Netflix is not moving forward. The priority is clear: give Dante a worthy farewell in this season 3.
