The Japanese Crunchyroll company recorded a 63.4 percent drop in profits in the most recently ended 2025 financial year. We summarize.
Growing user numbers
As shown in the financial report published in the Japanese Official Gazette “Kanpo” on May 19, 2026, the net profit of Crunchyroll Co., Ltd. based in Shibuya, Tokyo, last year at 453 million yen (2.4 million euros).
In the previous year, the company had achieved 1.239 billion yen (approximately 6.7 million euros). The total assets amounted to 11.99 billion yen (the equivalent of around 65 million euros) as of December 31, 2025.
Despite the weaker figures from its Japanese subsidiary, Crunchyroll continues to grow internationally. At the beginning of May, the streaming service confirmed that it had exceeded the 21 million paying user mark.
Most recently, Crunchyroll received heavy criticism from the community, among other things, for price increases and subsequent discount campaigns. There were also job cuts as part of a restructuring in March.
