»Scooby-Doo!« receives first anime series from Japan + visual


The US company Warner Bros. Animation announced today that it is working on an anime series based on “Scooby-Doo!” We summarize.

The anime is titled “Welcome, Scooby-Doo!” (Japanese: “Yokoso Scooby-Doo!”) and is based on the original animated series “Scooby-Doo!”, which premiered in the United States in September 1969.

The studio OLM (“The Apothecary Diaries”) is responsible for the production and is directed by Itsurou Kawasaki (“The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting”). Warner Bros. Animation is the producer. Cartoon Network and HBO Max will handle global distribution. A start date is still pending.

Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, commented on the announcement:

“We look forward to this new chapter as we continue to evolve the Scooby-Doo! franchise with its first original anime series.

Together with the amazing artists at OLM, we will unveil a new series of puzzles, signature crazy escapades and of course lots of Scooby snacks – all brought to life through the dynamic art of the anime.«

The main roles in the original English version include Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. Both speakers have already voiced their characters in previous American “Scooby-Doo!” productions.
