“Freezing” star emotionally hit: “She will be alone at some point”

The second season of “Freeze: Beyond Journey’s End” places an even greater focus on transience and interpersonal relationships – an aspect that even affected the main speaker emotionally. We summarize.

Tragic perspective

In a joint interview with her co-stars Chiaki Kobayashi (Stark) and Kana Ichinose (Fern), Atsumi Tanezaki (Freeze) recently spoke about the central themes of the hugely successful fantasy anime.

The experienced voice actress explained that while working on the new episodes of the second season, she realized how tragic Frieren’s perspective as an almost immortal elf actually is.

Although the protagonist tries more and more to understand people and build emotional bonds, she also knows that her companions will die one day – while she herself has to live on alone.

Emotional thoughts about the future

Tanezaki was particularly moved by the idea that at some point Frieren would only be able to preserve the memories she shared with her companions alone. Above all, the thought of how Frieren could continue to travel after the deaths of Fern and Stark hit her emotionally and even made her cry.

However, she also emphasized that it is precisely these memories that form the core of the story. People and memories would ultimately live on in others and thus remain connected across generations.

The 28-episode first season of “Freezing: Beyond Journey’s End” is already available on DVD and Blu-ray, while the ten-episode second season was simulcast on Crunchyroll in the winter 2026 season. The third season starts in October 2027.
