Studio Ghibli is repositioning itself at the top: President Hiroyuki Fukuda will step down from his post in June 2026. The current CEO, Kenichi Yoda, is now slated to be his successor. We summarize the details.
Change in management at Studio Ghibli
Fukuda will resign from his duties as president and representative of the studio at the end of the general meeting on June 22, 2026. However, the manager will remain with the company and should continue to be a member of the board. No further personnel changes within the management level are currently planned.
Kenichi Yoda, who has been on the board of Studio Ghibli since October 2023, is being considered as his successor. The manager, born in 1974, previously worked for the newspaper “The Yomiuri Shimbun” and later moved to Nippon Television. There he supervised events such as concerts and exhibitions, among other things.
Yoda has also long been considered an important contact between Nippon Television and Studio Ghibli. The Japanese media group made the anime studio a subsidiary in 2023 and has been the largest shareholder ever since. Fukuda will continue to assume senior roles within the holding company.
As of June 22, 2026, Ghibli’s board of directors includes producer Toshio Suzuki as chairman, director Hayao Miyazaki as honorary chairman and Goro Miyazaki. In addition, Kiyofumi Nakajima remains in office as vice president.
