Call of Duty: the film made official with a release date already set



After years of rumors and false starts, the film project Call of Duty is finally concrete. Paramount Pictures and Activision took advantage of the CinemaCon 2026 to formalize a live action adaptation, designed as a major modern war film for the big screen.

Better, the date is already set: the film will be released on June 30, 2028 in the United States, and even the June 28, 2028 in France, two days in advance for the French public. Scheduled for the 25th anniversary of the license born in 2003, this feature film does not yet have a definitive title, a detail which is already fueling speculation.

Call of Duty film: an XXL announcement at CinemaCon 2026

On the CinemaCon stage, Paramount formalized working with Activision on “a live-action feature film inspired by Call of Duty”. The studio promises a film designed for early fans but also for the general public, with the ambition to “delight its immense community of fans around the world by incorporating the elements that make the success of the iconic video game series, while boldly extending it to an entirely new audience”.

The operators present discovered a short conceptual teaser, a montage of images from the games on “Seven Nation Army”, without real shots filmed. The director Peter BergTaylor Sheridandeclaring in passing “Taylor and I are both very involved in the special forces” and promising to show the reality of the soldier’s profession “on a human scale, while giving it a spectacular dimension”.

What do we already know about the Call of Duty movie and its release date?

Paramount has locked down the coveted late June 2028 slot, typical for summer blockbusters. France is served first with a release on June 28, followed by the United States on June 30, a pattern already seen for several large licenses in order to capitalize on the European public’s appetite for action cinema.

Behind the camera, Peter Berg knows military film and special operations well, having directed Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon or even Mile 22. To the writing, Taylor Sheridan brings his experience of modern conflicts and anti-heroes, already at work on Yellowstone Or Wind River. The production brings together Paramount, Activision and heavyweights like David Glasser and Rob Kostich, with a budget that promises to match a franchise that has brought together more than a billion players and generated more than $35 billion in revenue, or around 33 billion euros.

Call of Duty in cinemas in 2028: what should French players expect?

The film will be live-action, therefore with real actors and not animation, and aims for a tone close to realistic modern warfare, in the spirit of the parts Modern Warfare. A huge unknown remains for fans: will the plot follow an arc known as Modern Warfare Or Black Opsor will it tell a completely new story in the Call of Duty universe? As of yet, Paramount has not confirmed anything.

No casting has been announced, no specific location or time frame revealed, and the final title may not simply be “Call of Duty.” We only know that the producers want an accessible approach for those who have never touched the license, while providing fans with military action and spectacular explosions. Between now and June 28, 2028, French players can therefore expect a long ramp-up made up of trailers and, above all, answers to the many questions still pending.
