The PS5 is rolling out a major new update, here’s what it changes

The PS5 continues to reinvent itself, sometimes where you least expect it. Without a big announcement, Sony has just deployed an update that discreetly transforms the visual experience of the console. Since March 20, 2026, players can discover a new animated theme inspired by The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, accompanied by a new display mode. Available in all regions, this update enriches the Home Hub with features designed to enhance the screen and immersion.

PS5 update, a new animated theme inspired by The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin

The first change is immediately obvious. Sony introduces an animated theme directly accessible from the Home Hub, in the Backgrounds section then Games. This new visual showcases the universe of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, an open-world action RPG available for free on the PlayStation Store. The background features the game’s artwork, with a castle in the background, doves flying over it, while cloud particles slowly cross the screen.

This type of animation brings a lively touch to the interface, far from the usual static backgrounds. The visual rendering clearly focuses on a soothing and immersive atmosphere, designed to accompany long browsing sessions. This theme automatically appears at the top of the list for users, making it easy to access immediately upon installation.

PS5 showcase mode, how to display your screen in full screen

Beyond the visual, this update introduces a feature expected by many players: showcase mode. This mode allows you to display the wallpaper in full screen, removing all widgets from the Home Hub. As a result, the interface gives way to a more refined experience, centered on the image.

Activation can be done in several ways. From the Hub settings, it is possible to define an inactivity period after which the showcase mode launches automatically. Another option is to activate it manually by pressing the L3 button on the DualSense controller. This operation is reminiscent of a screen saver, but with a much more marked aesthetic dimension. The wallpaper then becomes the central element of the display.

A PS5 update designed to enhance the user experience

With this update, Sony is not just adding content, but refining the overall experience. The link with the release of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin shows a desire to further integrate the game universes directly into the interface. The simultaneous arrival of the animated theme and the showcase mode creates a cohesive combination. One provides movement and visual identity, the other allows you to fully enjoy it without distraction. This development is part of a broader trend observed on recent consoles, where the interface becomes a space in its own right, almost as elaborate as the games themselves.
