Sony continues to roll out updates for its flagship console. A new version of the PS5 system software has been available since March 16, with several improvements that affect both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Pro.
This new firmware, numbered 26.02-13.00.00, introduces changes visible to players, particularly in terms of graphics, the interface and certain system functions.
A PS5 update focused on improving PSSR
One of the main changes concerns PSSR technology, used to improve image quality on PS5 Pro. “We’ve improved PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) on PS5 Pro. Enjoy sharper, clearer images in compatible games.” This technology makes it possible to optimize visual rendering by analyzing images to provide a more precise display.
To activate this improvement, players must go to the console settings, in the “Screen and video” section, then “Video output”. The “Improve PSSR Image Quality” option is only available on PS5 Pro.
A PS5 interface enriched with new visual options
The update isn’t limited to graphics. Sony also introduces several new features related to the console interface. The Home Hub now has new features. Players can enable a Presentation mode that displays the background in full screen when the console is idle. A slideshow mode also allows you to choose an album of images as your wallpaper, with automatic scrolling.
Users can customize these options directly in the Home Hub settings, including setting the delay before Presentation mode automatically activates. It is also possible to select an image from the media gallery to use it as a background.
New features and improved user experience
This update also brings more discreet but useful additions to everyday life. The PS5 now supports Unicode 17.0 emojis, which can be used in messages sent via the console.
Sony has also improved the ergonomics of certain menus and messages, in order to make navigation more fluid. These adjustments aim to improve the overall player experience, by simplifying certain interactions and making the interface more pleasant to use.
Improved overall performance on PS5 and PS5 Pro
Beyond the new features, Sony also says it has made improvements to system performance and stability. This type of modification, often discreet, plays an important role in the overall functioning of the console.
Better stability helps reduce bugs and ensure a smoother experience when using the PS5 every day. The deployment of this update is happening gradually. Some users can access it immediately, while others will have to wait a few days before it is available on their console.
