Steam offers a free cozy game rated 10/10, download it and keep it for life

In a week marked by big video game announcements, a small independent game has created a surprise on Steam. Novel Havendeveloped by SkyCat Games in collaboration with author Anabelle Stehl, is available for free and already has a perfect score among its first players.

Released discreetly on February 24, the title offers a short, narrative and resolutely soothing experience. Best of all, it can be downloaded for free and kept in your library forever.

A cozy game to forget everyday life

Novel Haven places you in a charming coastal village. Your mission? Bring an old abandoned lighthouse back to life and transform it into a welcoming bookstore. The objective stated by the developers is clear: to offer a moment of relaxation, far from the daily hustle and bustle. The game adopts a detailed pixel art style, combined with full voice acting, which reinforces its immersion.

Inspired by a German literary trilogy of the same name, the game remains perfectly accessible, even if you don’t know the original novels. The gentle atmosphere, the soothing music and the contemplative rhythm are reminiscent of the great classics of the cozy genre.

A short but action-packed experience

Although relatively short, Novel Haven is not lacking in content. Players can:

  • freely decorate and arrange their bookstore
  • restock the shelves
  • help the villagers
  • discover hidden secrets
  • adopt pets

Yes, it’s even possible to adopt capybaras, which adds an adorable touch to the whole thing. The game focuses more on narrative and atmosphere than on difficulty. It is therefore particularly aimed at players looking for a relaxing and caring experience.

100% positive reviews: a rare 10/10

As of now, Novel Haven has a limited number of reviews, but they are all positive. An impressive performance for a newly released independent game. One Steam user points out that the graphics are “perfect”, giving it a maximum score of 10/10. Others praise the touching story and the enveloping atmosphere of the title. This type of reception is rare, even for paid games. For a completely free title, the performance is even more remarkable.

Steam is full of free gems

Valve’s platform is known for its big AAA releases, but it’s also home to a huge collection of free indie games. Some are experimental, others deeply narrative. Novel Haven falls into this category of cozy little nuggets that sometimes go under the radar.

Additionally, Steam Next Fest is currently underway, offering hundreds of free demos until March 2. But once the excitement has passed, Novel Haven remains available without time limit. Downloadable for free, playable without restriction and kept for life, it constitutes an excellent video game break.
