Battlefield 6 Season 2 is finally here. After several weeks of waiting and a gradual loss of steam in the community during season 1, Battlefield Studios is deploying update 1.2.1.0 on February 17, 2026 on PS5, Xbox and PC. A massive update that introduces a new map, several new temporary modes and a major balancing overhaul.
The objective is clear: to revive interest around the FPS after a successful launch last year but a decline in the number of players in recent months. Between new equipment, hundreds of fixes and profound gameplay adjustments, Battlefield 6 is significantly changing with this season 2. New map, psychoactive smoke, iconic helicopter and massive rebalancing. Battlefield 6 Season 2 doesn’t just add content, it profoundly changes the gaming experience.
A new Contaminated map and three temporary modes focused on the VL-7
The big new thing is called Contaminated. It is a vast European mountainous battlefield organized around a strategic German air base. The map is playable in Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation, Squad Deathmatch, and Strongpoint modes, with ground vehicles and helicopters available.
Battlefield Studios explains: “Season 2 introduces a series of limited-time experiences built around the VL-7, a new psychoactive smoke weapon spreading across multiple battlefields.” The studio specifies: “As contaminated zones appear, squads must adapt their tactics, manage their masks and filters, and fight for control in increasingly hostile environments across multiplayer, Battle Royale and Gauntlet mode.”
Among these experiences: “VL-7 Strike: a limited-time mode where the psychoactive VL-7 smoke spreads in certain areas of multiplayer and REDSEC.” “Players should use masks and manage their filters carefully, as missing them will expose them to the disorienting effects of VL-7.” The Battle Royale also evolves: “Battle Royale – Synthesis: smoke envelops Fort Lyndon, transforming the battlefield.” “Fight and collect loot in contaminated areas while securing masks and filters to survive the effects of the smoke.” Finally: “Gauntlet: Altered State: Gauntlet returns with a new approach.” “Squads compete in a knockout format while navigating psychoactive smoke and rushing to complete missions under pressure.”
New weapons, gadgets and the return of the AH-6 Little Bird
Season 2 adds three weapons: the M121 A2 machine gun, the GRT-CPS semi-automatic sniper rifle, and the VCR-2 assault rifle intended for close quarters combat. On the vehicle side, the famous AH-6 Little Bird makes its return for NATO forces, offering high mobility and firepower.
Three new gadgets also appear: the 9K38 IGLA anti-aircraft missile launcher, the HTI-Mk2 reconnaissance device capable of detecting enemy gadgets, and the protective mask essential in contaminated areas. The Season 2 Battle Pass features four themed paths with immediate rewards, skins, weapons, and experience bonuses. A BF Pro version includes 25 instantly unlocked tiers as well as exclusive access to additional rewards.
A massive rebalance and hundreds of fixes
Update 1.2.1.0 isn’t just about content. Weapon balancing has been extensively reworked. The recoil of many automatic weapons has been adjusted, the detection range on the mini-map modified, and certain rifles like the Mini Scout have had their velocity reduced from 880 to 800 m/s. The player’s movement also evolves. The maximum length of the sliding impulse is reduced by 25%, while new acceleration curves improve the predictability of movements.
Hundreds of bugs have been fixed: invisibility issues, collision errors, interface issues, animation inconsistencies, display errors on the Manhattan Bridge or Empire State maps, as well as exploits related to Portal mode.
A strategic update to relaunch Battlefield 6
Beyond the visible additions, this Season 2 acts as a technical and competitive overhaul. Recoil adjustments, better combat readability, HUD improvements, audio optimization and network fixes aim to make clashes more consistent. With this massive overhaul, Battlefield Studios seeks to attract players who left during Season 1 while consolidating its active base. Between new map, contaminated modes and balancing overhaul, Battlefield 6 is entering a determining phase of its life cycle.
