Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement will be its last game
The news comes to us from the ArtPlay studio, and more precisely from Koji Igarashi. More than a year after the announcement of Shutaro Ida’s withdrawal to focus on the fight against his illness, we learn that he unfortunately died on February 10, at the age of 52 :
“ Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in the early morning, our creative director, Shutaro, left us at the age of 52 after a year and a half of fighting cancer. Shutaro has contributed significantly to the development of the video game industry through his numerous creations. His death is deeply regrettable, especially since his future projects looked promising. I express my deepest gratitude to all his fans for their unwavering support and it is with deep sadness that I announce his passing. In accordance with the family’s wishes, the funeral took place in family privacy. Development of Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, led by Shutaro, is nearing completion. We will perpetuate his legacy and do everything we can to carry out this work, living up to his vision and his name. »
Before working on this sequel to BloodstainedShutaro Ida worked for a long time at Konami on the license Castlevaniaespecially on those released on Nintendo DS or Game Boy Advance, like Dawn of Sorrow Or Portrait of Ruin. He had also been credited on Metal Gear Solid V before he goes on an adventure with Koji Igarashi on Bloodstained.
