Xbox will soon remove a major feature, here’s what will change for gamers

A new Xbox update isn’t going to add a feature, it’s going to remove one. Starting April 2026, Social Clubs will disappear from Xbox consoles. Microsoft has confirmed that this option will no longer be accessible through the “Friends & Community” application. From now on, it is no longer possible to create new Social Clubs. Players who still wish to take advantage of this feature therefore have a few weeks before its final closure.

Xbox Social Clubs permanently removed

Social Clubs allowed players to create and join communities around their favorite games. Users could post discussions, share screenshots or other multimedia content. These clubs also made it easier to find partners for multiplayer or mutual aid in certain in-game activities. Each community was created and managed by the users themselves. According to the official Xbox FAQ page, Social Clubs will be removed as part of “prioritizing the social experiences that gamers use most today.”

Only clubs created by players are affected

An important point to note: only Social Clubs created by users will be deleted. Official gaming-related clubs will remain active. These official clubs will still allow developers to interact with their community. They will no longer be visible via the “Friends and community” application, but directly accessible from the file of the game concerned.

A deletion which occurs in a sensitive context

The disappearance of Social Clubs comes as other social platforms face criticism. Discord recently announced a strengthening of its age verification system planned for March 2026.

The removal of Social Clubs adds to a growing list of features removed from Xbox consoles in recent years:

  • Upload Studio – support discontinued in 2020
  • Avatar Editor app – discontinued in January 2025
  • Purchase of films and series – service stopped in July 2025

With the disappearance of Social Clubs in April 2026, Microsoft is continuing this rationalization strategy.
