Good news for some PlayStation players. A major RPG released in 2018 on PS4 now benefits from an optimized version on PS5, at no additional cost for those who already own the game. This is Kingdom Come: Deliverance, an ambitious medieval title which marked its time despite complicated technical beginnings.
Initially offered during the PS4 era, the game was never integrated into PlayStation Plus. Result: only players who purchased it at the time can benefit from this new PS5 version for free. For others, you will have to pay $29.99.
A free PS5 upgrade for old PS4 players
The PS5 version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance brings several technical improvements. Players now benefit from 4K resolution, reworked textures and an optimized frame rate. Other technical adjustments have also been made, although they are not detailed precisely.
When it released in 2018, the game suffered from unstable performance on PS4. Slowdowns and bugs marked the first months of operation. This new version aims to correct these defects and provide a smoother experience on the current console.
A massive 130+ hour RPG
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not a small game. The main story requires around 40 hours to complete. By integrating side quests, this time easily doubles. Players who want to explore every corner, complete all the side missions and obtain the trophies can exceed 130 hours of gameplay.
Despite its initial technical imperfections, the title sold more than 10 million copies. It thus established itself as one of the best-selling RPGs of the second half of the 2010s. On Metacritic, the game displays a score between 69 and 76 depending on the platforms.
A strategic return after the success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
This upgrade comes at a strategic time. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released last year to very positive critical reception. The game has a score of 89 on Metacritic and is one of the highest-rated RPGs of 2025. “Cheers for free! At least the game is playable, so I can pick it up and finish it someday.” “Well… I think I’ll start this game again.”
