Konami returns to JRPGs with a new project similar to Tales of and Xenoblade Chronicles

Rev. Noir looks like Xenoblade and we don’t need more

Despite a trailer which makes you want to discover more, Rev. Black still remains shrouded in mystery. It is currently difficult to determine precisely the nature of this brand new game developed by Konami. At first glance, we are facing an Action-RPG whose visual style and atmosphere are very reminiscent of the trilogy Xenoblade Chronicles. We can also see similarities with JRPGs from Bandai Namco like Tales of or Scarlet Nexus.

Konami only shared fairly light context. We will thus evolve in a world immersed in “Lightfall”, a natural phenomenon which brings death to everything it touches. The protagonist is presented as a lonely boy suffering from amnesia who meets a young girl like no other. Together, they embark on a journey to end this scourgeconvinced that this quest will save the world, and the young girl at the same time.

With these first images and this little synopsis, Rev. Black currently resembles a classic JRPG among many others, and which ticks off the clichés of the genre. But we can’t help but be hopeful that he will surprise us. The fact that it is developed by Konami is already enough to arouse curiosity and give hope for an approach different from that proposed by more traditional Japanese studios.

For now, no release period has been communicated for the title. For now, Rev. Black is only planned for PS5. At least, while waiting to see if other platforms are added to the list.
