A simple post was enough to ignite the Pokémon community. User Riddler_Khu, known for his reliable leaks, posted a photo of the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen covers along with a terse message: “They’ll be back soon.” Since then, speculation has been rife around a highly anticipated remake which would mark a return to basics for the franchise.
These two games, released on the Game Boy Advance in 2004, are seen by many fans as the best revisitation of the Kanto region. If the rumor is confirmed, players could well relive one of the most beloved chapters of the series, with modern accessibility and features.
A return to the ultimate version of Kanto
According to license observers, this remake would not be a simple nostalgic nod. “This is not just another journey into the past, but rather a return to the roots of the most accomplished version of Kanto ever conceived.”
The FireRed & LeafGreen versions were praised for enhancing the foundations laid by the original games, while adding depth and comfort to play. “FireRed and LeafGreen perfected a formula. They captured the magic of the 90s and supercharged it with the vibrant colors and deep mechanics of the Game Boy Advance era.”
This remake, if it sees the light of day, could therefore once again redefine the standards of the classic Pokémon RPG, while attracting a generation of players who have never set foot in Kanto.
Retro mechanics in the Pokémon Home era
Current technical possibilities would open the way to full compatibility with Pokémon Home. The idea of reviving a Pokémon captured in 2004 and using it online in 2026 is already appealing to longtime fans. “It wouldn’t just be a feature, but a legacy.”
The famous Sevii Islands, integrated into the post-game at the time, offered a unique feeling of exploration. At a time when some current games are criticized for their emptiness or linearity, this content could return with a new lease of life. As for artistic direction in pixel art, it still remains a model for many independent games today.
An imminent announcement?
Nintendo has not yet confirmed anything. But Riddler_Khu’s history and timing – with eyes on a possible Pokémon Presents – suggest that a revelation is near. And if this remake is indeed on the way, it could become the video game event of the year for a whole generation of trainers, old and new.
